Mochvara Gallery presents "SOUND ART INCUBATOR 2012"

Sound Art Incubator is a new programme line within Mochvara Gallery. The Incubator is a production project with a competitive character, aimed at producing new artworks . The open call is directed towards young authors, and most notably local art academies: Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts, Osijek Art Academy, Applied Arts Academy in Rijeka, and the Split Art Academy. The curators at Mochvara have set their hearts on sound art incubation because of the problems local production of new works by young artists with little or no recognition and limited experience (not to mention finances) faces. Mochvara Gallery offers precisely those unaffirmed authors the chance to fully realize their, production wise, more complicated new media concepsts – those which are so hard for our authors to materialize from the initial concept. Sound Art as the Gallery's programme framework in the last two years, remained the focal point for this project as well, since the transdisciplinary part of the local art scene is still insufficiently recognized, although on the global art scene such sound art projects often prove to be most interesting and attractive.

The Mochvara Gallery personnel will select the best among the submitted artworks and present them to the public. The goal of the Incubator is to fully realize individual or group artworks, but the produced works will be presented within the open call context of their piers. This way the Gallery will give insight into what the audience is usually unfamiliar with, and it will hopefully motivate local contemporary artists to research this art field as well. The final group exhibition will thus incite what the Gallery is all about – free and informal exchange of ideas through meetings, interaction and new creative collaborations.

Submissions deadline: October 1st, 2012
