Marko Batista " Timing Diagrams"

Timing Diagrams, a sound performance by the Slovenian artist Marko Batista accompanied by Boštjan Čadež visuals; sound is played on a specific DIY retro-futuristic instrument devised for the performance by Batista himself; the performance flows according to a simple formula of sound + visual + mechanism and which elements are signs for three different aspects of reality which intertwine: electronic, digital and mechanical. The first element of sound is performed without any digital manipulation, while the visuals are projected on large side surfaces and a fragmented central surface. Sound and visuals do not behave as expected: the unpredictability of their relationship is exciting and disturbing for it does not correspond to our linear logic, which searches for symmetry and compliance in everything. The third element of the formula is represented by a mechanical device which reacts to the commands of the used instrument. The elements define a system of hybrid relations between three temporal diagrams: electronic sound, digital image and mechanical movement. By the end of the formula, what might be considered as the total, is stimulation and the state of absolute immersion in a technology defined landscape. Sound + image + mechanism = ambiance: and not one that tells a story and communicates meaning by narration, but one that draws the audience in much more directly, and immerses them in new ways of perceiving sound, a different way of listening to a sound/noise performance, and finally employing their senses on completely new levels.
